As COO International, Karsten applies his deep expertise in the agriculture industry to promote Indigo’s overseas expansion and deliver the company’s cutting-edge microbial and digital technologies to growers operating at different scales and across a range of environments.

Over the course of his career, Karsten has handled billions in assets at the helm of multinational agribusiness units while helping streamline bottom-line operations and drive market growth in both developed and emerging regions. Prior to Indigo, he served in leadership positions at Syngenta, where he managed top-to bottom-line P&Ls, spearheaded commercial strategy re-design, launched a variety of product lines, and secured partnerships with premium buyers, building talented, cross-functional teams in the process.

Most recently, as Syngenta’s Regional Director of Latin America (LATAM), Karsten was responsible for ~$4bn sales and instigated a crucial business turnaround, resulting in improved financial performance. While there, he also implemented a number of effective commercial platforms and a new SAP system. Previous to assuming the Regional Director role, Karsten acted as Global Head of Seedcare. Under his leadership, the business reclaimed top spot, thanks in large part to a record-setting 2013 sales season. Karsten’s track record at Syngenta extends further: After launching his career at the company as Head of Strategy, Planning and New Business Development, he became Global Head of Cereals, a role in which he brought double digit top-line growth, successfully launched hybrid barley, and initiated integrated solutions and downstream partnerships.

Before Syngenta, Karsten was Associate Principal at McKinsey for seven years, mainly leading clients in the chemicals sector.  He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and a BA in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from University of Karlsruhe.

"At Indigo, innovative technology meets passionate people to create the future of agriculture—a ‘better’ agriculture for farmers, the environment, and consumers. I feel privileged to be part of this team and to help shape this exciting journey."
