How Does Soil Carbon Sequestration Work?

    September 02, 2021 | Indigo Agriculture
The science behind agricultural carbon sequestration offers a snapshot of the constant dialogue between the atmosphere, plants, and soils. It starts with photosynthesis—and continues in exchanges between plant roots, animals, and microbes living within the soil. Implementing regenerative practices that support soil microbial communities promotes active carbon cycling, thereby accumulating soil organic matter long term, particularly in deeper soil layers. This persistence is what ultimately allows farmers to get paid for the carbon in their soil and supporters to receive high-quality credits through Indigo’s Carbon program.

On the journey to carbon farming

    June 02, 2020 | Indigo Agriculture
By Georg Goeres, Head of Indigo Europe    On the journey to carbon farming By some estimates we have less than one or two decades to save the planet. The degree to which this is accepted may vary depending on where you are but there is no doubt about the renewed sense of urgency in tackling climate change. And this is now forcing every sector of our economy to think about how it can improve its carbon and environmental footprint. Agriculture is no different in this respect but there appears to be a dawning realization that the sector may actually be part of the solution rather than a problem to be solved.
